Runway is an AI-powered creative suite developed by Runway AI, a New York-based company that pioneered many of the foundational techniques behind modern AI video generation. Their platform offers text-to-video, image-to-video, video editing, and a comprehensive creative toolkit used by filmmakers, agencies, and content creators worldwide.

What is the latest version of Runway?

Runway Gen-4 is the latest generation model, offering significant improvements in temporal consistency, motion quality, and prompt understanding over Gen-3. Gen-4 also introduces enhanced motion brush controls and improved 4K upscaling capabilities.

How long can videos generated with Runway be?

Runway generates video clips of 10 to 20 seconds per generation depending on the model and settings. For longer content, the Video Extend feature seamlessly continues any clip while maintaining scene consistency and visual quality, allowing you to build sequences of any length.

What resolution does Runway support?

Runway generates video at up to 1080p natively, with AI-powered 4K upscaling that enhances detail and sharpness. The upscaler preserves textures and reduces artifacts, producing broadcast-quality 4K output suitable for professional production.

How much does Runway cost? Is it free?

Runway offers a free tier with limited credits to try the platform. Paid plans include Basic ($12/month), Standard ($28/month), Pro ($76/month), and Unlimited ($184/month) with increasing credit allocations and feature access. On our platform, you can access Runway models with free trial credits and flexible pay-as-you-go pricing.

What is the Runway motion brush?

The motion brush is a unique Runway feature that lets you paint directional motion onto specific areas of an image or video frame. You can control which elements move, the direction and intensity of motion, while keeping other areas static. This is ideal for product videos, environmental effects, and precise creative control.

How does Runway compare to Kling AI?

Both are top-tier video generators with different strengths. Runway excels in creative editing (full suite of inpainting, outpainting, green screen, style transfer), motion brush precision, and established professional workflows. Kling 3.0 offers native 4K resolution, multi-shot storyboard, native audio in 6 languages, and lip sync capabilities. Runway is often preferred by agencies and filmmakers for its editing flexibility, while Kling is favored for its feature breadth and competitive pricing.

Can I use Runway for commercial projects?

Yes. Runway explicitly supports commercial use on paid plans. Many advertising agencies, production companies, and brands use Runway for commercial content creation including ads, product videos, brand films, and social media campaigns. Check the current terms of service for specific licensing details.

What types of content work best with Runway?

Runway excels at cinematic scenes with complex camera movements, product videos with studio-quality lighting, fashion and lifestyle content, nature and landscape shots, and visual effects sequences. The motion brush makes it particularly strong for controlled product animations and environmental effects. The creative editing suite adds value for post-production refinement.

What are the best Runway alternatives?

Popular alternatives include Kling AI (native 4K, multi-shot, audio), Sora 2 (longer clips, narrative coherence), Veo 3 (Google DeepMind, excellent single-shot quality with audio), and Seedance (strong human motion). Each model has unique strengths — compare them in the model comparison table above to find the best fit for your use case and budget.

Runway Features

Tekst-til-video-generering

Describe any scene in natural language and Runway transforms it into high-quality video. Gen-4 understands complex compositions, camera movements, lighting conditions, and artistic styles — generating cinematic results from a single text prompt.

Bilde-til-video-animasjon

Upload a still image and bring it to life with intelligent motion inference. Runway analyzes the composition and adds physically plausible movement — from subtle parallax to dynamic action sequences — while preserving the original visual style.

Video Extend

Seamlessly extend any generated or uploaded video clip beyond its original duration. Runway maintains scene consistency, motion continuity, and visual quality across extended sequences — ideal for building longer narrative content.

Creative Editing Suite

Beyond generation, Runway offers a full creative editing toolkit: inpainting, outpainting, style transfer, green screen removal, and object erasure. Edit and refine videos with the same AI-powered precision as generation.

4K Upscale

Upscale generated videos to 4K resolution with AI-enhanced detail preservation. Runway sharpens textures, reduces artifacts, and adds fine details — turning standard generations into broadcast-ready 4K content.

Motion Brush

Paint directional motion onto specific areas of an image or video frame. The motion brush gives you granular control over which elements move and how — animate a flag waving while keeping the building static, or make water flow while the bridge stays still.

Style & Aesthetic Control

Direct the visual style of your generations with detailed aesthetic control. From photorealistic to stylized, film grain to clean digital, vintage to futuristic — Runway adapts its output to match your creative vision across any genre.
